“Based on the initial information it was certainly reasonable to suspect that a child (had) been a victim of child endangering or a juvenile-related sex crime. We also explored the possibility that someone had been a victim of criminal child enticement,” Jamison wrote.
“No evidence was found to substantiate any such illegal activities by the letter of the law. This case has been reviewed and we are closing it as an ‘unfounded’ complaint,” the chief said.
The male teacher and coach was placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 4, the day complaints of alleged “unprofessional behavior” with several students were made to the school. The teacher resigned a week later and the resignation was accepted by the board of education Dec. 15.
In the letter to Hanes, Jamison said the initial request to police was in no way unfounded. The term is used to describe the disposition of an investigation. “It should, in no way, affect the decisions of you and your staff in future contemplations on whether to report suspected abuse,” Jamison said.
