No Prison Time For Former Teacher's Aid

A former teacher's aid for Vandalia Butler schools will not serve any prison time for having child pornography on his computer.

The child porn was discovered when the computer was purchased at a garage sale.

David Pottenger, 46, of Troy, was facing two counts of pandering obscenities involving minors. At his sentencining Monday, he apologized to everyone in the courtroom.

Troy police said Pottenger sold a computer to someone who in turn sold it at a garage sale. The woman who purchased the computer discovered child pornography on it and contacted authorities.

Pottenger's attorney, Andy Pratt, described his client as a "decent person who made a serious mistake."

He has lost his job as a teacher's aid in the Vandalia Butler school district.

At the sentencing, Judge Robert Lindeman placed Pottenger on probation for two years. The judge warned that if he violates the terms of his community control sanctions, he would have to serve 17 months in prison.
