Product recalls at Kroger: What you need to know

Recently, products on the shelves at Kroger have been disappearing and it is not because customers are buying them.

A series of recalls stemming from possible Listeria contamination have been plaguing the company, as well as other grocery chains.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe illness if ingested.

This past month, Kroger has seen the recall of millions of pounds of meat and poultry (along with Costco and Dorothy Lane Market), its Kroger Broccoli Raisin Salad, and Kroger brand sunflower products.

Kroger supplier SunOpta earlier this month said that there was a chance that its sunflower kernels could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and it began a voluntary recall.

While there have been no reported illnesses, Kroger Co. expanded the recall to include the following products:

  • Kroger Salad Toppers Sunflower Kernels – 3.5 oz.
  • Kroger Sunflower Kernels – 6 oz.
  • Kroger Cranberry Delight Trail Mix – 14 oz.

Stores involved with this recall are Kroger, Jay-C, Dillons, Bakers, Gerbes, King Soopers, City Market, Fry’s, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, and Smith’s. The recall affects 28 states, including Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Michigan.

The expanded recall also includes all sizes of Kroger Broccoli Raisin Salad at Kroger, Jay-C, Dillons, Bakers, Gerbes, and Food 4 Less in 19 states including Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

Finally, the recall is encompassing all sizes of Deli Broccoli Cranberry Salad (Smith stores only) and all sizes of Superfood Salad (Smith's and Fry's Stores) in seven states including Montana, Nevada and Utah.

Anyone who has purchased any of these items should return them to a store for a full refund or replacement.

Customers with questions can contact the Customer Service Center at 1-800-KROGERS, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to midnight; Saturday through Sunday, 8 a.m. through 9:30 p.m.
