Purdue's Bell Tower clock face crashes to the ground

Time did not stand still at Purdue University on Tuesday, as a clock face from the school's Bell Tower slipped from a crane and crashed to the ground, the Lafayette Journal & Courier reported.

Nobody was injured, the newspaper reported.

video on Facebook showed the clock face bouncing off the basket of a cherry picker lift that was holding two workers. Then it plummeted to the ground.

The Verdin Clock Company, a Cincinnati-based company working on the Bell Tower said in a news release that it is reviewing the incident, the Journal & Courier reported.

"The Verdin Company has been in business for over 175 years and safety while installing our products is one of our highest priorities and we have a very strong safety record," the company said in its release. "We want to express our sincerest apology to Purdue University regarding the damage to their clock."

Verdin said it would replace the damaged clock, the Journal & Courier reported.
