1. One dead, four injured by Florida lightning strike
Five people were struck by lightning in White Springs, Florida, in early April as storms moved through the northeast part of the state. 2. VIDEO: Lightning strike kills 32 cows
A Missouri farmer lost over 30 of his animals during a thunderstorm in May 2017. Springfield farmer Jared Blackwelder and his wife, Misty, heard some crashes Saturday morning after feeding the dairy cows, according to CBS News. The cows had been struck by lightning.
"He went out to bring the cows in and that's when he found them," Stan Coday, president of the Wright County Missouri Farm Bureau, told CBS News. "It's a common occurrence. It does happen. The thing that made this the worst was just the sheer number of cows that were affected."
3. Boy, 9, killed by lightning in rural central Ohio
Authorities say a 9-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning Wednesday afternoon outside his central Ohio home in August 2016. Rescue crews were sent to a home in rural Jefferson Township and found the boy not breathing. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Coshocton. Jefferson Township is about 65 miles northeast of Columbus. READ MORE

4. Lightning sparks fire at Ohio retirement center, 1 injured
A lightning strike started a fire at a retirement center in southwestern Ohio that forced more than 100 people from their homes in August 2016. Firefighters say one resident suffered minor injuries at the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, north of Cincinnati. READ MORE
5. Lightning believed to have caused house fire in Urbana
There were no reported injuries from a house fire in Urbana believed to have been started when lightning hit it in September 2017. Crews from Urbana and Mechanicsburg were dispatched to the 300 block of North Dugan Road on a report of a house fire triggered by a lightning strike. READ MORE

6. Lightning hits Delta jetliner on approach to Dayton International Airport
A Delta Air Lines jetliner was hit by lightning on its approach to Dayton from Atlanta in February 2017 and landed safely, a spokesman with the airline confirmed.
"I can confirm Delta flight 1521 from Dayton to Atlanta was delayed following a lightning strike of the inbound aircraft," Michael Thomas, corporate communications, said Tuesday evening in an email. READ MORE
