Returning fire gutted Opera House back to 'life'

Work is currently underway to save the 117-year-old fire gutted historic Opera House on West Monroe Street in the central business district in the village of New Bremen in Auglaize County.

The landmark, that dates back to 1895, was damaged by fire the evening of February 28 of this year.

The fire was ruled accidental by investigators from the office of the State Fire Marshal.

There were no injuries.

The Opera House is being restored by its owner the Crown Equipment Corporation in New Bremen.

The fire had been burning in that building unnoticed for about 2 1/2 hours said New Bremen Fire Chief Bob Kuck.

The building housed a popular restuarant/bar and a barbershop.
