Services set for longtime Vandalia leader who died attending UD game

Services are Thursday and Friday for a longtime Vandalia civic leader who unexpectedly died while attending a University of Dayton men's basketball Atlantic 10 Tournament game last week.

Vandalia-Butler Board of Education President Bruce Sucher, who also had served as city manager and police chief in Vandalia for many years, died Friday, March 10 in Pittsburgh, where years earlier he had received his bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University.

The Sucher family will receive friends in the Butler High School Performing Arts Theater on Thursday evening from 4-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Christian Life Center, 3489 Little York Road, Dayton, OH 45414.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bruce Sucher Memorial Fund, c/o the Dayton Foundation, 40 N. Main St., Suite 500, Dayton, Ohio 45423. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
