Springfield Residents Battle Bedbugs

Clark County health officials assisted a bedbug infestation on Saturday they described as the worst they've seen so far.

"We did find, in fact, we confirmed there were quite a few in this apartment and we were very concerned about the health of the individual there because the number of bites that were occurring from the bedbugs," said Charles Patterson, commissioner of the Clark County Combined Health District.

Patterson said the infestation was centered in an elderly man's apartment. Patterson said the man was covered in bedbug bites.

"They have bedbugs infested severely on the ninth floor," said Sandra Truman, a resident of the apartment building. "I mean it's just ate up everywhere. You're doing laundry in the laundry room and the bedbugs are just everywhere!"

Patterson said the problem is being brought under control and pest control will be back out at the building on Monday to continuing treating affected areas. He said problems on other floors of the building are also being addressed.

"There had been a problem on another floor," Patterson said. "Some furniture had been removed earlier in the week and the pest control operators have been in already to spray that apartment and the ones around it."
