"I didn't mean to be rude and I feel terrible." Rosenberger said in an interview with The Columbus Dispatch. "When I thought it was enough I didn't know really how best to do it, so I just said 'amen' and away we go."
VanAman is the pastor of the Pickerington Baptist Temple south of Columbus. He was invited to give the prayer by state Rep. Tim Schaffer, R-Lancaster.
At one point during the prayer, Rosenberger lifts his head and just opens his eyes. After the pastor talks about King Solomon and David, the speaker saw his opportunity.
“You were pleased with Solomon, may you be pleased with us,” VanAman said.
“Amen,” Rosenberger said before the pastor was finished.
Rosenberger then led the members of the House in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Since there are microphones on the desks of House members, one female member could be heard saying, “That was a sermon.”
