Storm Trash Being Turned In Cash At Scrap Yards

A lot of people have been turning trash into cash by selling debris at local scrap yards.

River Metals Recycling on Jasper Road in Xenia Township has seen an increase in people scraping metal that was damaged in the wind storm on Sept. 14.

David Linkhart who lives in Greene County said old sheet metal and aluminum is worth about $10 a pound.

Bret Waggoner with River Metals Recycling said they are getting a lot of aluminum.

And, in an effort to stop scrap metal thefts, there is a new law in place that requires sellers to show a photo ID. Officials said people who are selling will also have their picture taken.
