Strange cloud waves spotted in Dayton

DAYTON —Strange clouds were spotted over downtown Dayton Friday morning.

This was not the result of alien activity, but rather something called gravity waves.

Gravity waves exist in the atmosphere when there is a pattern of rising and falling air, just like a wave on the water.

In this picture we see clouds, but between the clouds, there are breaks. Where there are breaks in the clouds, the air is sinking or falling.

Where the air is rising, there are clouds.

This is certainly not common, but it's also not that unusual to see.
