Sub shop closes, but business is ‘great’ at local chain’s 9 other stores, founder says

‘We’ve been here 40 years, and we plan on being here another 40,’ Super Subby’s Steve Buchholz says

One Dayton-area Super Subby's restaurant has shut down, but business is strong at the locally-based chain's nine remaining locations, Super Subby's founder Steve Buchholz said.

The sub shop at 1242 E. Central Ave. in Miamisburg shut down in January, Buchholz said. Originally, a post on the restaurant's Facebook page said only that the restaurant would be "closed this week for a remodel. See you soon." But Buchholz said the restaurant has not reopened.

The closing will not impact the remaining Super Subby’s locations, the founder said.

“Business has been great” at the chain’s other locations, Buchholz said. He founded Super Subby’s in 1978.

“We’ve been here 40 years, and we plan on being here another 40,” Buchholz said.

The Dayton area’s sub-sandwich market got more crowded earlier in this decade when chains such as Firehouse Subs and DiBella’s started expanding into the region, joining locally based chains such as Super Subby’s and Submarine House, and national chains such as Jersey Mike’s  and Subway.
