The trash can is located near gasoline pumps, and the size and shape of the box prompted police to notify the bomb squad at a precaution, Lightner said.
Police are to meet with the caller sometime Monday evening to interview him. There has been no determination as to whether charges would be filed, Lightner said.
The bomb squad was dispatched just before 4 p.m. on a report of a suspicious package left near gasoline pumps at the UDF. That call prompted the evacuation of the convenience store and the nearby shopping center.
At 4:35 p.m., authorities shut down Brandt Pike and Taylorsville Road.
At about 6:10 p.m., the bomb squad used its robot to move the box from its location near the gas pumps to a front-loader full of sand. The robot opened the box, which revealed a dark plastic bag and the rotten meat inside the bag.
