SUV Flips With Mother, 2 Children Inside

Miami County Sheriff's deputies said properly used child safety seats prevented a 4-year-old and 2-month-old from being injured when the vehicle they were riding in flipped Sunday afternoon near Troy.

Deputies said a car pulled from a stop sign at the intersection of Fenner and Forest Hill roads west of Troy and into the path of the sports utility vehicle driven by Holly Demoss, 34, of near Troy.

The SUV flipped several times before coming to rest on its top in a soybean field, deputies said.

The two children were pulled from the vehicle uninjured, deputies said. Their mother was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center as a precaution.

The person driving the vehicle that caused the crash was not hurt. Deputies identified her as Kate Miller-Berkemeier, 61, of Piqua. Deputies cited Berkemeier for failure to yield from a stop sign.

The crash remains under investigation.
