The annual self-guided tour this year features eight homes along South Hyatt Street and Horton Avenue. It will be held Dec. 1 from noon to 5 p.m. with the theme "Celebrating our Neighborhoods."

Proceeds from the event are donated back to the community through nonprofit organizations.
Lyons, an engineer, bought the home on Horton Avenue in 2012. Built in 1930, it is described as a vernacular stucco home with Spanish-flavor arched and covered veranda.
The home was sold in 1935 to P.W. and Cleo Wampler, who ran a plumbing business from the garage before buying a building for the long-time business downtown.
The home has original plaster and lathe walls along with hardwood floors and a sunroom, among other features.
Since moving in, Lyons said she, with the help of her father, has learned a lot.
“You have to learn how to fix things if you have an older home,” she said. “We just go to town. We have learned so much.”

The dining rooms of tour houses are decorated by interior designers, who work with the homeowners. Lyons’ dining room was done by Diana Begley of Diana Begley Interiors of Tipp City.
She chose a woodsy theme for the tabletop because of extensive wood throughout the home. She incorporated rich greens, pinecones and evergreen trees in the design with a few splashes of red.
The rest of the house will feature a tree selected by Lyons along with her two children, wreaths, special photos and other items.
There will be more decorating at the home this year because of the tour.
“It is something I have been wanting to do but, now the home tour is here, I have been forced to do things I had put off,” she said.
