The Ohio State Patrol pulled over a white SUV with two men inside and quickly called for backup, including a K-9 unit. The men are being held in the Preble County Jail on misdemeanor charges.
Emerson Ellis, of Fort Washington, Md., was booked on driving with a suspended license and illegally displaying someone else’s license. The second man, Ralph Griffin, was booked on charges of marijuana possession and making a false statement to police.
Authorities said Interstate 70 is ripe territory for drug busts, particularly in Preble County. Troopers have made several arrests over the past few months with the help of drug-sniffing dogs.
Last May, troopers pulled over a Budget Rent-a-Truck and found more than 1,200 pounds of pot inside, worth around $2.7 million, according to authorities. A similar incident last June, according to investigators, uncovered 175 pounds of cocaine, along with $100,000 in cash inside a truck on I-70.
Troopers said evidence from Sunday’s arrests will be presented to prosecutors next week and exactly what charges will be determined at that time.
