Union’s highest paid employees: I-Team Payroll Project

The city of Union paid 15 employees more than $50,000 last year, according to the I-Team Payroll Project searchable database of public employees.

Only one employee — city manager John Applegate — brought in six figures. Other top earners were department directors.

Local governments make payroll with your money, which is why the I-Team has assembled and made available a searchable database of pay for public employees.

An I-Team investigation this year found the ability to cash out unused sick and vacation leave is a rare perk in the private sector, though local governments are on the hook for tens of millions of dollars worth of these payments.

The five highest paid Washington Twp. employees last year were:

1. John Applegate, city manager: $110,600

2. Michael Blackwell, public safety director: $89,645

3. Robert Bergman, service department field superintendent: $88,804

4. Glenn Applegate, water plant superintendent: $87,135

5. Denise Winemiller, assistant city manager: $86,953
