"The new image is an investment in our athletic program's future," director of athletics Tim Wabler said in a press release. "This is a stronger, more iconic representation of our program and our sports teams."
The image will be rolled out in phases, starting with the basketball programs, new athletic facilities projects and more visible venues such as UD Arena, where the logo is already on the basketball court. The school will continue to use the old logo, which was created in 1992, throughout the transition.
"The University of Dayton has always had a great image locally and within our campus community," men's basketball coach Archie Miller said. "This will only set us up to be even more connected as we move forward. It's a special time to be a part of this re-branding and it will be essential to our future."
