Wapak approves contract with teachers

The Wapakoneta Board of Education Tuesday evening unanimously approved a new contract with the Wapakoneta Education Association after nine months of negotiations.

The contract included no base salary increases over the three-year contract. The 155 teachers will get step raises for longevity in the first year of the agreement, but not in years two and three.

Teachers will also pay more for health insurance. They will pay 13 percent this year for the cost of  the insurance, and 14 percent and 15 percent the next two years.

The teachers "marginally" ratified the contract  last Thursday.

The membership earlier had authorized their negotiators to issue a strike notice if need be, but that 10-day notice was never filed with the school administration.
