Wapak teachers settle without a strike

The 155 teachers in the Wapakoneta School District settled their contract dispute with the board of education late Thursday night  by accepting the terms of a new agreement.

Details of that contract will not be made public until the school board meets Tuesday evening to approve the agreement with the Wapakonta Education Association.

This comes without a strike by the teachers, even though the teachers gave their negotiators the right to issue a ten day notice of a work stopage. The notice was never given to the school administrations in hopes of settling the labor dispute without a strike.

The two sides have been barganing since April of 2011.

The board initiated what they said was their  "last, best and final" offer on Saturday, December 31, 2011.
