West Milton Officers On Administrative Leave After Weekend Shooting

Two West Milton police officers are on administrative leave after they shot and killed a man early Saturday morning.

Police said the officers went to the home on Debron Drive to break up a fight between a mother and her son. Investigators said James Sowry, 25, had a knife and went after the officers.

According to authorities, the officers used a can of pepper spray on him, but it did not stop him. The officers then fired their guns and shot the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Miami County sheriff’s office is looking into whether the shooting was justified.
