Now Reising is an inmate of the Warren County Jail, held on a drug-trafficking charge. But she is to be furloughed long enough to witness the execution of her mother’s murderer this morning at the state prison at Lucasville.
Rocky Barton, whose 50th birthday is July 28, is to die by lethal injection at 10 a.m. today after waiving his appeals. He has said he deserves to die.
At three years, it is the shortest time from conviction to execution of any of the 22 Ohio inmates put to death since 1999, said prison department spokeswoman Andrea Dean. Barton is the fifth Ohio inmate to “volunteer” by waiving appeals.
“His mood is very calm and compliant,” Dean said Tuesday afternoon. “He’s getting what he wants.”
Late Tuesday, Barton ate a “special meal” of his choosing — pork chops and gravy, hash browns, biscuits, fried eggs, cherry pie and Pepsi — after which he was to have contact visits with nine relatives. He can visit them again behind cell bars this morning until 8.
