The cause of the fire is undetermined, but 28 storage spaces had either smoke or fire damage. Eight were damaged by fire, said Capt. Jason Kinley of the Xenia Fire Division.
”It’s considered a high-dollar loss so we did contact the state fire marshal’s office,” Kinley said.
Crews from all but three fire departments across Greene County responded, he said.
“We had to cut about 16 (rollup) doors with saws to get them open … we had to empty out each unit of contents while fighting a fire.”
Xenia police were securing the self-storage facility until fire investigators arrive Saturday, Kinley said.
FIRST REPORT
Flames were seen coming from the Xenia Stor-N-Lock this evening in the city.
The fire was reported around 5:45 p.m. at the business, 1348 N. Detroit St., according to Xenia police and fire dispatch.
Detroit Street was shut down in front of the business. A man making a delivery in the area called the newsroom to report seeing a lot of flames coming from the storage facility.
At least two units sustained damage, and no injuries were reported.
