Woolpert to study Delaware County road improvements

Beavercreek-based engineering and design services firm Woolpert Inc. has been contracted by Delaware County to study road improvements in Lewis Center, near Columbus, according to a media release.

Woolpert will collect and analyze data to determine whether South Old State Road should be widened from two lanes to up to five lanes at select areas, and if intersections require signals, roundabouts or turn lanes. The contract’s value was not disclosed.

U.S. Census data shows that Delaware has been among the fastest-growing counties in Ohio, and multiple subdivisions have been built along South Old State Road.

Woolpert will develop feasible roadway alternatives to alleviate existing traffic and safety issues, officials said.

The study is expected to take about eight months. Roadwork is expected to take place in 2019 and is dependent on funding.
