Fire investigators said some workers went into the attic and turned on a light switch that is not regularly used, which led to a spark and then a fire.
Authorities said a fire truck was in the area and was able to respond to the scene in less than a minute.
Firefighters managed to confine the damage to the attic; however, a hole had to be cut into the ceiling in order to get to the fire.
The church suffered minor damage.
