Yellow Springs publisher buys Charleston magazine

Ertel Publishing, a niche magazine and book publishing company based in Yellow Springs, has purchased Charlie, a 6-year-old media company that focuses on art and culture in Charleston, S.C., company officials announced.

Benjamin Smith, Ertel Publishing partner, said in the release that adding this type of magazine to its portfolio is a first for Ertel, but part of a larger growth strategy the company is actively pursuing.

Smith said the Yellow Springs company will continue to produce the digital magazine but will begin publishing print books and other related products under the Charlie name as well.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ertel Publishing was founded in 1988 by Patrick Ertel, a Yellow Springs writer, photographer, and entrepreneur. Ertel established the company to publish Antique Power magazine.
