You never know what you're in for when you walk into a brand new restaurant, but pretty much from first glance we knew Old Scratch Pizza was something special.

We had the chance to visit during their soft open prior to their public opening on Oct. 18 to try their menu offerings and take a peek around the new space on Patterson Ave. in downtown Dayton. From beginning to end, the food, drinks, and staff were absolutely top notch.

Hosting a great laid-back, causal-industrial atmosphere with clear view of the two wood-fired pizza ovens and a large patio space, what struck us most about Old Scratch was the easy vibe, as if the joint had been open for years as one of Dayton's best-kept pizza secrets.

With more additions to their menu (including kids' items and expanded bar offerings) and some creature comforts for both the dining and patio areas (arcade games, anyone?), we think Old Scratch is on it's way to becoming the place to grab a causal drink or meal this side of the Oregon.
