“Participants will not be permitted to bring a finished product,” competition organizer and Rivertown Chili co-founder Brian Walusis said.

The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. May 11 outside Rivertown Chili at 105 S. 2nd St. in Miamisburg.
"We have a panel of chef judges lined up and a cash prize," Walusis said. "We are hoping to develop this event into a preliminary round cook-off as part of the ladder that leads up to the International Chili Society World Championship Chili Cook-Off event."
The registration fee is $10. Entrants must bring their own cook stove or camp stove, a small fire extinguisher, a cooler or some other means to keep perishable ingredients cold, and water/soap/dish wash pans, Walusis said on the cook-off's Facebook event page.

Ingredients may be chopped or prepped in advance, but the chili must be cooked on-site.
“Channel your inner chuck wagon cook and fire up your stove on Saturday May 11 in downtown Miamisburg, and if you can rustle up a chili that is tasty enough to impress the judges, you may win the $100 cash prize or have your chili recipe featured at Rivertown Chili on Memorial Day weekend,” Walusis wrote.

Stoves will be lit at about 1 p.m. The judges will evaluate the results prior to 2:30 p.m., and a tasting that is open to the public will run from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Awards will be presented at about 2:45 p.m.

The locally owned independent Rivertown Chili opened in June 2018.
The Cinder Path Chili Cook-off is being co-sponsored by Star City Brewery, Lucky Star and the Miamisburg Merchants Association.
