1B coach Tom Goodwin was not with the team Tuesday because of “a personal family matter.” Bench coach Bob Geren was at first and senior adivser Guy Conti took Geren’s spot on the bench. … C Travis d’Arnaud was recalled after he found his hitting stroke during a two-week stint at Triple-A Las Vegas. The 25-year-old d’Arnaud was demoted to Las Vegas after the Mets’ loss on June 7. He was hitting just .180 with three homers in 128 at-bats this season. He also missed time because of a concussion.

OF Bryce Harper (left thumb) went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs in his second rehab start for Potomac against Salem. He fielded one ground ball single while playing center field. C Wilson Ramos (wrist) also played in the game and went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. … After 15 innings Tuesday night, the Nationals were almost out of pitchers. Manager Matt Williams told 1B Adam LaRoche to get ready to pitch the bottom of the 16th had the game remained tied. LaRoche last pitched in a minor-league game in 2003.

OF Grady Sizemore signed a minor league contract. The three-time All-Star was released by Boston on June 18. “We needed more production from our outfield,” GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said. Sizemore was expected to join the Phillies after playing in Triple-A. … Injured ace Cliff Lee said he felt fine after a bullpen session. He’s hoping to return before the All-Star break. … Reliever Mike Adams received a cortisone shot on his ailing right shoulder and hopes to return after the All-Star break. … Former OFs Pat Burrell and Bobby Abreu (currently with the Mets) were among those who turned out to honor Jimmy Rollins during a pregame ceremony. Rollins became the club’s all-time hits leader on June 14.
