Reds bring back former All-Star pitcher

The Reds have signed one of their former pitchers — right-hander Alfredo Simon — to a one-year contract.

Simon spent three seasons (2012-14) in Cincinnati as a reliever and starter. As a starter in 2014, he finished 15-10 with a 3.44 ERA and was a National League All Star.

The Reds traded Simon, 34, to Detroit after the 2014 season. Simon was 13-12 with a 5.05 ERA last year with the Tigers.

Simon likely will be in the mix for a spot in the Reds’ rotation to start the season.
