Neftali Soto, a first baseman for Triple-A Louisville, is one of two Reds minor leaguers who broke out of a slump in a big way this week.

Soto, 23, had been mired in a 1-for-27 drought before homering in back-to-back games earlier this week. He also drove in nine runs in a three-game span.

With a 1-for-4 performance Friday night in a 4-1 loss at Indianapolis, Soto has hit safely in five of his last six games for the Bats.

Soto is hitting .225 with five home runs and a team-best 25 RBIs this season.

Meanwhile Bakersfield (Single-A) second baseman Devin Lohman snapped out of an 0-for-17 skid with a big Tuesday that saw him go 3-for-6 with two home runs and a career-high six RBIs in a 14-6 win against Visalia in the California League.

The homers came in the first two at-bats of the game for the 23-year-old Lohman, who was a third-round pick in 2010 out of Long Beach State.

Lohman, who also homered and stole a base Thursday night, was hitting .256 with six homers, 29 RBIs and nine stolen bases entering the weekend.

• Young Ci: Left-handed pitcher Tony Cingrani (Bakersfield) allowed just two runs Thursday night but still saw his ERA climb.

The 22-year-old Cingrani (4-1) entered the game with a 0.78 ERA, which was tops among all Reds farmhands and third among all qualifying minor league pitchers. The two earned runs he allowed in 5 1/3 innings raised his ERA to 1.05.

He also struck out four batters and walked two in getting a no-decision as the Blaze dropped a 4-3 decision against San Jose in 12 innings.

• Wright stuff: Dayton (Single-A) shortstop Ryan Wright extended his hitting streak to seven games Thursday night in a 5-2 loss at Lansing. During the streak, Wright is batting .464 (13-for-28) with six doubles, raising his season average from .273 to .302.

The 22-year-old Wright had collected five consecutive multi-hit games before the 1-for-4 performance Thursday.

• Notable: The Reds purchased the contract of Joey Gathright, a 30-year-old outfielder with a .263 average in 1,165 career major league at-bats with the Royals, Rays, Cubs and White Sox. Gathright was assigned to Triple-A Louisville, where he had a pinch-hit single Thursday night in his debut and went 1-for-3 while batting leadoff in his first start Friday ... Billy Hamilton (Bakersfield) continues to average at least one stolen base per game with 44 swipes in 43 games this year ... Chris Valaika (Louisville) was put on the DL Thursday with a right knee strain.
