Reds put Mesoraco on 15-day disabled list

The Cincinnati Reds placed catcher Devin Mesoraco on the 15-day disabled list Monday before the start of a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Great American Ball Park. The move is retroactive to Thursday.

Mesoraco has suffered from a hip impingement since early April and has been limited to pinch-hitting duties.

Before the announcement about Mesoraco, Reds manager Bryan Price said, “He’s capable of hitting. The catching drills (last week) did not go well in the sense that he came out of them with some stiffness and soreness we hoped would be alleviated through his rehab and it wasn’t. We’re going to look at different options. We certainly want to have his offensive influence in our lineup. It doesn’t look like it will be behind the plate anytime soon. There’s our catch 22 right there. How do we utilize his offense on a National League team when he’s not behind the plate?”

The Reds reinstated relief pitcher Manny Parra from the 15-day disabled list. Parra had been on the DL since April 29 with a strained neck.
