Carolina Panthers sign Braxton Miller to practice squad

The Carolina Panthers signed Wayne High School graduate and former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback/wide receiver Braxton Miller to the practice squad Tuesday, one day after he worked out for the team.

Miller joins two other former Buckeyes on the Panthers roster: wide receiver Curtis Samuel and tight end Marcus Baugh, who is on injured reserve.

Miller spent the entire 2018 season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad and stayed with the Eagles in the offseason but was waived in August. He then signed with the Cleveland Browns in the preseason but was cut a week before the start of the season.

A five-star quarterback, Miller led the Warriors to the Division I Ohio state championship game in 2010 before enrolling early at Ohio State, where he was a three-year starter at quarterback and won the Chicago Tribune’s Silver Football as the Big Ten Most Valuable Player twice.

A shoulder injury caused him to miss the 2014 season, and he came back as a receiver in 2015.

The Houston Texans drafted him at that position the following spring, but he has not had much success at the pro level yet.

Miller has played in 21 NFL games and logged 34 catches for 261 yards and two touchdowns.
