Competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster at a new position (center field), Senzel, a former infielder, was having a strong spring at the plate (.308). Ervin also was a casualty of the Reds’ crowded outfield. He was cut despite hitting .341 with five home runs this spring.

The Reds open the regular season Thursday at home vs. the Pirates.

Senzel and Ervin were competing against veterans Scott Schebler, Jesse Winker and former Dodgers Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp.
