Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett was cited by Columbus police for a misdemeanor offense of operating a vehicle while impaired early this morning at a DUI checkpoint, the university announced Saturday.

Barrett has been suspended by coach Urban Meyer from playing in Ohio State’s next game against Minnesota on Nov. 7. The Buckeyes are on their bye week and don’t play today.

According to a report by ElevenWarriors.com, Barrett blew into a breathalyzer just over the legal limit and was released to his teammate Cardale Jones, who drove him home.

Barrett had just regained the starting job from Jones. Jones started the first seven games for the No. 1 Buckeyes. Barrett started the last game at Rutgers. The Buckeyes return to action Nov. 7 at home against Minnesota.

Athletic Director Gene Smith told ESPN Barrett will be allowed to play Nov. 14 at Illinois. He said because Barrett was cited for a misdemeanor, he’s not subject to a mandatory two-week suspension.
