CINCINNATI — After a less-than-satisfactory day of practice at the “Bearcat Bubble,” Miami University’s football team looked more like its old self on Monday afternoon.

“I don’t want them to stay stagnant,” Miami interim head coach Lance Guidry said after his team’s second workout at the Jefferson Avenue Sports Complex, the University of Cincinnati’s indoor practice facility. “We want up-tempo in practice. We want to play fast. We want to be physical. And they’ve done that today.

“(On Saturday) I think they were a little sluggish,” he said. “I think it’s because they had some time off. But today we moved around pretty good. Receivers did a nice job of making plays and we were physical at the point of attack. The kids really responded and we got better today.”

The RedHawks have eight more days of practice leading up to their appearance Jan. 6 against Middle Tennessee State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

“It’s nice,” Guidry said of the UC complex, which is inflated and stands 75 feet tall and 370 feet long. “The temperature’s nice in here. We don’t have that snow on the ground, no wind blowing.

“It’s got a big C. Bearcat (logo) in the middle of it, but we can deal with it right now,” he added with a grin. “It’s better than being in that snow back in Oxford. But this is nice, and we appreciate Cincinnati letting us use this ‘Bubble.’ ”

Miami had scheduled another practice for today at UC, but has decided to remain on its own campus.

“We’re a little concerned with the weather coming in tonight,” Guidry said.

He said the team will meet in the Phillips Hall gym. “It’ll be a big teaching day on third down.” Then the squad will split up, the defensive players going to Withrow Court — Miami’s old basketball arena — and the offensive players staying at Phillips.
