MUM Notebook: Volleyball team aims to finish strong

MIDDLETOWN — Miami University-Middletown’s volleyball team is looking to finish the regular season strong before heading to the Ohio Regional Campus Conference tournament, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 12 at Ohio State University-Newark.

After a win over Ohio University-Chillicothe Wednesday, the ThunderHawks were nearing the .500 mark at 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the ORCC. MUM played at Sinclair Friday and OSU-Lima Saturday, but results were not available at press time. The ‘Hawks play at Cincinnati State Monday before hosting their final home match of the season at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against University of Cincinnati-Clermont in the C. Eugene Bennett Recreation Center.

Tennis teams dominating ORCC

MUM’s women’s tennis team suffered a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Cedarville University Sept. 28, but the squad was 3-2-2 overall (3-0-2 ORCC) heading into the final match of the regular season Saturday at OU-Chillicothe. The MUM men’s tennis team was 5-2 overall (5-0 ORCC) heading into the regular-season finale at OU-Chillicothe. Both teams play in the conference tournament Saturday, Oct. 12 at Bridgeport Elementary School, which is the home court of Miami University-Hamilton.

Fall banquet scheduled

The MUM Athletic Department is hosting a fall banquet to honor the volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis teams at 6:30 p.m. Sunday Oct. 27 in the Community Center at MUM. For more information or to make reservations for dinner, call 513-727-3317.
