Four Wright State players have attempted at least 16 3-pointers this season:
| Player | Made-Att. | Pct. |
| Todd Brown | 15-30 | .500 |
| Troy Tabler | 12-29 | .414 |
| Cooper Land | 9-23 | .391 |
| Vaughn Duggins | 5-16 | .313 |
FAIRBORN — Vaughn Duggins took just a second or two to think about it when asked who the best 3-point shooter was on the Wright State basketball team.
“It’s a toss-up between No. 3 and No. 32,” said Duggins, calling out the uniform numbers of junior Troy Tabler and senior Todd Brown. “Saturday night, it was No. 3.”
That’s the night Tabler went for 24 points in a 67-54 victory against Youngstown State while making 5-of-7 3-point shots. Brown also made 2-of-4.
And then there’s Duggins himself — and Cooper Land and Ronnie Thomas and even freshman Tyler Koch, who hasn’t played much yet, but someday may prove to be the best 3-point shooter of all the Raiders.
“He’s a gunslinger,” Duggins said. “An Indiana gunslinger.”
Some of that firepower may be necessary tonight, Dec. 8, when the Raiders play at Toledo to begin a six-game swing through non-Horizon League opponents.
Saturday, Tabler also made 10 free throws to finish with 24 points, his career high.
Brown also made a couple of 3s and is shooting 50 percent from the field from that distance.
“Some of the guys wouldn’t like this, but if we just did a contest and shot 100 3s, (Troy’s) probably the guy who would make the most,” said WSU coach Brad Brownell. “Luckily, Todd can get hot, Vaughn can get hot ... we have guys who can make 3s. Cooper Land can make 3s.
“I think that’s one thing that’s difficult about playing us. We have multiple guys who can make the 3-point shot.”
While Brown has the best 3-point percentage so far, he’s not about to call himself the best.
“We know what Troy can do,” Brown said. “We see it every day, crazy shots. You see him in practice. You should see him taking shots in ‘HORSE’ before games. You don’t want to be behind him in ‘HORSE.’ We’ve got a lot of good 3-point shooters. It depends on the situation.”
Land agreed, especially when it comes to Tabler and Brown.
“They shoot and make the tough and contested shots,” Land said. “I shoot the open 3s.”
