UD star plays nine positions in game

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — University of Dayton infielder Jimmy Roesinger became just the second player in Coastal Plains League history to play all nine positions Friday night, passing baseball’s ultimate versatility test in the Fayetteville Swamp Dogs’ 5-2 loss against the Wilmington Sharks.

Roesinger had four putouts and two assists, including throwing out a runner trying to steal third while catching. A handful of players in various college leagues have played all nine positions in a game, but it’s unlikely any of them took the mound with as much pressure. Roesinger pitched the ninth with the score tied 2-2, retiring the side in order.
