The Dayton City League Varsity Club will be sponsoring a Roosevelt High School Alumni Night on Friday Jan. 25, from 7-11 p.m., at the TASTE Restaurant located at 2555 Shiloh Springs Road in Trotwood.

A Social Hour will take place from 7-8 p.m. followed by the Special Awards Program starting at 8 p.m. Event is FREE and open to the public. Scheduled Awards to be presented include the following:

AWARD#1: The "All-Star Legend Award" is presented to a Boys Basketball Player who has been identified as a Top 10 player in that school's history. The annual award will be presented to one recipient form each school comprising the ten member All-Century Team to be announced in 2030.

This year’s All-Star Legend Award is being presented to Ray Brown (1960). Mr. Brown led Roosevelt to the 1960 Boys AA State Basketball Championship and a perfect 27-0 season in his Senior Season. In the Championship Game, he led the team scoring with 20 points, raising his career total to 1,197, which was the City League’s Scoring Record at the Time. He was voted Ohio’s Top High School Boys Basketball Player and accepted a full scholarship to play at Ohio State University for Coach Fred Taylor.

AWARD#2: The "Outstanding Achievement Award" honors a notable alumnus for their achievement in Business, Politics, Education, Entertainment, Arts & Sciences, Sports, Community Service and Philanthropy). One recipient from each school will receive this prestigious honor annually.

This year’s “Outstanding Achievement Award” is being presented to John Henderson (1961). Mr. Henderson was a starting forward on the 1960 Boys State Basketball Championship Team and a member of the 1961 Boys State Track & Field Championship Team.

After High School he accepted a full football scholarship to play Wide Receiver at the University of Michigan. While at Michigan he was the team’s starting wide receiver in the two years that he played and caught a total of 58 passes for a total of 707 yards earning All-Big Ten honors. He also won the Big Ten silver medal in the High Hurdles and anchored the gold medal winning shuttle hurdles relay team at the Penn Relays.

He was drafted in both the AFL/NFL Drafts in 1965. He played several seasons in the NFL with his most productive being with the Minnesota Vikings. He was the starting wide receiver on the Minnesota Vikings 1969 NFL Championship Team in addition to the 1970 Super Bowl IV game where he caught a record number of 7 passes for 111 yards. During his NFL career he caught a total of 108 receptions for 1,735 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Ray Brown - 1960 Class AA State Player of the Year (Ohio State University).
