Dayton earns third-highest ranking among A-10 teams in preseason Pomeroy ratings

Flyers three spots higher than they were a year ago in preseason

The Dayton Flyers rank 100th out of 353 Division I teams in the preseason Ken Pomeroy ratings, which were released this weekend. The website, known for its advanced analysis of college basketball, predicts Dayton will finish 17-12 and 10-8 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Dayton ranked 103rd in the preseason Pomeroy ratings last season. It was its lowest preseason ranking since 2013, when it began the season 107th and finished 67th.

Dayton finished last season ranked 172nd. That was its lowest ranking since the Pomeroy ratings were started in 2002. It was the fourth time Dayton has ranked below 100, following 2005 (111th), 2006 (131st) and 2007 (124th). The website predicted Dayton would finish 16-12 last season, and it finished 14-17.

Dayton has the third-highest ranking among Atlantic 10 Conference teams, trailing No. 68 Saint Louis, the A-10 preseason favorite, and No. 83 Davidson. Behind Dayton are: No. 103 St. Bonaventure; No. 104 St. Joseph's; No. 108 Rhode Island; No. 115 Richmond; No. 117 George Mason; No. 126 Virginia Commonwealth; No. 142 Massachusetts; No. 171 Duquesne; No. 175 La Salle; No. 194 George Washington; and No. 239 Fordham.

Here’s how Dayton’s non-conference opponents rank: No. 17 Auburn; No. 23 Mississippi State; No. 31 Butler; No. 114 Tulsa; No. 159 Fort Wayne; No. 214 Western Michigan; No. 228 North Florida; No. 316 Presbyterian; No. 333 Detroit; and No. 350 Coppin State.

Dayton will also play No. 4 Virginia or No. 154 Middle Tennessee State in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. Its third game in the Bahamas will be against No. 19 Wisconsin, No. 20 Florida, No. 52 Oklahoma or No. 105 Stanford.

No. 41 Ohio State leads the way among Ohio teams. Here’s a glance at where other local teams rank: No. 44 Cincinnati; No. 55 Xavier; No. 125 Wright State; and No. 183 Miami.
