UD shares title with GW after beating Saint Louis in OT

The Dayton Flyers clinched a share of the Atlantic 10 women’s basketball regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the conference  tournament, beating Saint Louis 68-62 in overtime Wednesday at UD Arena.

In her final home game, senior Kelley Austria led the Flyers with 16 points and hit a key 3-pointer in overtime. Lauren Cannatelli and Saicha Grant-Allen scored 12.

Dayton survived a long cold spell in the fourth quarter. It opened the quarter with a 54-49 lead but scored only two points in the fourth. Saint Louis tied the game on a 3-pointer by Sadie Stipanovich with 13 seconds left.

Grant-Allen gave the Flyers the lead for good with a basket in the opening minutes of overtime. Moments later, Austria hit a 3-pointer.

Dayton finished the regular season 19-9 and 13-3 in the A-10. George Washington beat Richmond on Wednesday, so the Flyers will share the title with the Colonials.

Saint Louis, which tied for the A-10 title last season, finished 22-7 and 12-4. Dayton swept the regular-season series from the Billikens.

This is the third A-10 regular-season title for the Flyers, who were picked to tie for second in the preseason poll. They won the regular-season championship in 2013 and 2014.
