Dayton Flyers forward Toppin adds to his long list of A-10 weekly awards

Dayton redshirt freshman could become first player in school history to win rookie of the year award

Dayton redshirt freshman forward Obi Toppin won the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week Award for the seventh time, cementing his status as the favorite to win the rookie of the year award, which will be announced this week.

Toppin averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 70-39 victory over La Salle on Wednesday at UD Arena and a 78-67 victory Saturday against Duquesne in Pittsburgh.

Toppin shot 63.6 percent (14 of 22) from the field and 80 percent (4 of 5) from the free-throw line. He dunked seven times, extending his school record for dunks in a season to 81.

Dayton (21-10) will return to action at 8:30 p.m. Friday against Saint Louis, Richmond or Fordham in the quarterfinals of the A-10 tournament at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
