Dayton teams prevail in Warrior Soccer Classic

13 of the 45 championships in the 3-day event were claimed by area clubs.

HUBER HEIGHTS — The last game of the adidas Warrior Soccer Classic was capped off with a Dayton-area team hoisting a championship trophy.

The Metro FC Rapids 93 Premier (Kettering) outlasted the Cincinnati United Premier Crew Jrs Gold in overtime and used a 3-2 advantage on penalty kicks to take the top prize in the boys 16 Gold division Monday, May 31, at Thomas Cloud Park.

“I told them if you are on the team, you’ve earned your way on the team,” Metro coach Tony Saliba said. “They are out here to have fun, learn and compete. There is a lot of joy in competition.”

The three-day event drew 510 teams to the soccer showcase. Thirteen of the 45 championships were claimed by area soccer teams.

"Dayton has done very well," tournament co-director Carol Maas said. "I see our area growing in level of competition and competing in higher levels."
