Dayton Flyers redshirt freshman forward Obi Toppin won the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week award for the fifth time Monday, increasing the chances he’ll become the first UD player to win the A-10 Rookie/Newcomer of the Year Award.
Toppin recorded back-to-back double-doubles in victories. He had 18 points and 12 rebounds Tuesday in a 74-73 victory at Davidson and 11 points and 10 rebounds Saturday in a 70-62 victory against Saint Louis at UD Arena.
Toppin averaged 14.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the Flyers won both games, improving to 18-9 and 10-4 in the A-10 with four games to play.
Toppin ranks fourth in the nation in field-goal percentage (66.4) and third in dunks (66). He tied Chris Wright’s school record with his 66th dunk of the season Saturday.
