Thursday was quite a night for the Fenwick High School girls volleyball team.

Senior setter Grace Maziar put her name in the state record book and the Falcons clinched a share of Greater Catholic League Co-ed championship.

Maziar broke the all-time, all-divisions state record for career assists (3,556) in the Falcons’ straight sets win (25-14, 25-22, 25-17) over visiting Alter. Maziar, the GCL Co-ed North Division Player of the Year last season, had 30 assists to up her career total to 3,570 and counting.

It was the 13th straight win for the Falcons, who are 16-1 overall and 11-0 in league play. Fenwick is ranked third in Division II in this week’s Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association state poll.

The Falcons wrap up league play Oct. 12 at sixth-ranked Roger Bacon, which is 9-1 in GCL Co-ed play.
