Bethel was 5-5 and 4-6 in Finfrock’s two seasons as head coach. He said he hopes to continue in some high school football capacity. He previously was the head football coach at Covington.
Finfrock and the parent of a Bethel player were involved in an after-game confrontation last season. Charges were filed against the parent.
- Carroll senior Tyler Pavliga has verbally committed to Grand Valley State (Mich.) to continue his track and field career. A hurdler, sprinter and jumper, the senior was second in the triple jump (42 feet, 1.75 inches) in the combined Division II-III indoor state championships this year.
- Beavercreek senior Dekan Ekpo has signed with Texas Christian to participate in track and field. A sprinter, the Nigerian native won the Greater Western Ohio Conference 100 meters and Division I district 100 last year. He also was ninth in the 100 at state and owns a 10.76 personal best in the distance.
- Former Miamisburg standout runner Megan Wright is finishing her career at the University of Toledo in championship style. The won the Mid-American Conference indoor mile at Kent State and set a school record of 4:39 in the mile at Notre Dame.
A redshirt senior, Wright will sit out this outdoor season and return to Toledo and run a final cross country, indoor and outdoor track seasons in 2014-15.
- Pickerington North girls basketball coach Dave Butcher holds a two-win lead over Beavercreek coach Ed Zink as the state's all-time winningest coaches.
North lost in a D-I district final. Butcher will take a 700-98 career record that spans 31 years into next season. Zink’s Beavers were knocked out in the second round of the D-I postseason. That leaves him with an overall career record of 698-214.
Zink has been the only coach in Beavers’ girls hoop history, spanning 39 seasons.
- Jim Gobrail is the new girls varsity soccer coach at Centerville. He was promoted from the Elks' head Reserve A position. He succeeds record-setting veteran coach Don Skelton.
“We only interviewed internally and felt that we did not need to look any further to find the head next coach to take what Coach Skelton has built and continue the excellence that has come to be expected,” Centerville athletic director Rob Dement said. “Jim will do a tremendous job and represent our program in a very classy manner.”
- Tom McEwan has left Fenwick to accept the girls head soccer position at Lakota East. McEwan won Division II (2008) and III ('12) state titles while at Fenwick.
He still runs the summer Nike Pre-Season Event and College Focused Coaching summer camps.
- Franklin's Luke Kennard was awarded third-team All-American by Max Preps on Monday. Among other honors, he also has been named Ohio's Mr. Basketball and the Gatorade Ohio player of the year.
The junior has verbally committed to Duke.
