First Barcelona practice for Flyers held at site of 1992 Olympics

The Dayton Flyers saw one of the world’s great soccer teams and players on Wednesday night and walked in the footsteps of the greatest basketball team ever assembled on Thursday morning as their tour of Spain continued.

The Flyers took a high-speed train from Madrid to Barcelona on Wednesday and saw FC Barcelona beat Sampdoria 3-2 at Camp Nou, Barcelona’s home stadium. Lionel Messi, the five-time world player of the year award winner, scored two goals and had an assist.

On Thursday, the Flyers return to the court in preparation for their second and final exhibition game in Spain. They practiced at Palau Municipal d’Esports.

The arena hosted the basketball tournament in the 1992 Summer Olympics. The original Dream Team, starring Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and numerous legends, won the gold medal in the same stadium.
