NFL Draft: Buffalo Bills draft Cardale Jones in fourth round

Cardale Jones woke up Saturday and wrote on Twitter, “Beautiful morning.”

The quarterback who led the Ohio State Buckeyes to the 2014 national championship with three brilliant performances will wake up Sunday knowing what he has to do to replicate that three-game run at the next level.

The Buffalo Bills selected Jones with the last pick of the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. He was the 139th player drafted overall, and Ohio State’s No. 12 was the 12th Buckeye picked. The Chargers drafted linebacker Joshua Perry earlier Saturday with the fourth pick of the fourth round.

Jones, a graduate of Glenville High School in Cleveland, was the 12th-ranked quarterback in the draft, according to ESPN’s Mel Kiper. He was the ninth quarterback drafted and the third from the Big Ten, following Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg, a second-round pick of the New York Jets, and Michigan State’s Connor Cook, a fourth-round pick by the Oakland Raiders.

Jones finished 11-0 as a starter Ohio State. He got the job because of injuries to Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett in 2014 and led the team to victories over Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship, Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and Oregon in the national championship.

In 2015, Jones beat out Barrett for the starting job only to lose the job midway through the season. He threw for 2,323 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career.
