Former Kenton QB Maty Mauk dismissed from Mizzou

Maty Mauk, who broke national and Ohio state records as the quarterback at Kenton High School; and was known for wild battles against rivals Coldwater and Alter; has been dismissed by the University of Missouri football team after his third suspension in four months.

According to a report by Tod Palmer in The Kansas City Star, Mauk was on a zero tolerance policy. A video of Mauk surfaced online this week showing him sniff a white substance off a table. Mizzou coach Barry Odom said he believed the video had been taped a while ago, but said his behavior in recent weeks showed he wasn't living up to expectations.

"We believe it is in his best interest to focus on his personal life and academic career at this time," Odom said in a release from the Mizzou athletic department. "We remain committed to helping him work through the challenges and earn his degree. Our hope is that he will grow from this and we wish him the vey best in his future endeavors.

Mike Mauk, a longtime coach at Kenton, won state titles in 2001 and 2002 with his oldest son Ben as quarterback. Ben played at Wake Forest before transferring to Cincinnati following major shoulder surgery. The Kenton Wildcats made the state finals in 2011 with Maty as the quarterback.

Mauk was suspended twice by Mizzou last year for drug or alcohol-related offenses. Mauk was re-instated by former Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel on Oct. 25, the day after a loss to Vanderbilt. Mauk apologized to teammates, then was arrested hours later at a Columbia, Missouri bar.

Mike Mauk, whose wide-open five-receiver offenses and penchant for on-side kicks during every kick-off set state records with multiple quarterbacks, shocked the Kenton community when he left for a job at Springfield Glendale High School in Missouri. He underwent surgery for colorectal cancer last year.
